Herein we report a novel approach to a very interesting class of compounds containing two acene-based chromophores connected via a rigid linker on the example of DBATT (2.3,8.9-dibenzanthanthrene) dimers. Our approach is based on the exploitation of recently developed dehydrative π-extension (DPEX) reaction, which allows introducing pristine acene-fragments during the very final synthetic steps. This development paves a simple way towards a large variety of materials interesting particularly for single-molecule spectroscopy.
